Climate
Because of the long shape, the climate in italy is not the uniform throughout the entire country. The North and the South are vary greatly. Between the Alps and the Tuscan, in the North, the winters are very harsh and cold. The summers are also harsh, hot, and extremely humid. In the middle of Italy, the climate is a lot milder. There is not as big of a difference in temperature during Winter and Summer in this region, and the during of the cold season is less than in the North. In Southern Italy, including the Islands, the winters are rare and never harsh. The spring and fall seasons are as warm as the summer seasons in central Italy.
Geography
Around 40% of Italy is made up of mountains. The best known mountains in Italy are the Alps. They stretch across eight different countries in Europe. The tallest part of Italy is 4,810 meters above sea level, and it is called Mont Blanc. This is also the highest mountain in Europe. Italy also contains many volcanoes. The largest volcano in Italy, which is also the largest volcano in Europe, is still active today. It is called Etna, and it is located in Sicily. One of the most famous Volcanos of all time is Mount. Vesuvius, located near Naples, Italy. It is infamous for its eruption in AD 79. This eruption led to the burying and destruction of the Roman cities Pompeii and Herculaneum. It is the only volcano in the mainland of Europe, known to have erupted in the last 100 years.
